The Terre-de-Haut shipwreck: an unusual must-see in Les Saintes

When you arrive in Terre-de-Haut, in Les Saintes, you immediately think of fine sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and the good life. But there is also a place that attracts curious visitors and lovers of unusual photos: an old rusty hulk, frozen at the water's edge. This wreck, known as the Lynndy, is as intriguing as it is fascinating.

The Lynndy was not a giant of the seas but a small coastal freighter, one of those that transported goods and supplies between the islands. Caught in a storm, it was eventually towed and deliberately run aground at Terre-de-Haut. Subsequently abandoned, it never left its position, and its metal frame continues to rust slowly, at the pace of the sea spray and the tropical sun.

Today, all that remains is a gutted hull, eaten away by salt and time. Yet this wreck is not just a piece of debris: it has become a symbol of the Terre-de-Haut landscape.

Over the years, it has become a landmark for locals and a must-see photo opportunity for travelers. Many see it as an unintentional work of art, born of chance and abandonment.

Location: Lynndy is easy to find, not far from the village of Terre-de-Haut, accessible on foot. You can start from Anse Mire beach, grab your fins, mask, and snorkel (as well as your best action camera), and set off in search of Lynndy. It is home to a large number of fish and corals, a feast for the eyes.

Some species of fish and coral are protected, so please respect the marine flora and fauna.

The wreck is fragile, so it is best to admire it without climbing on it.

Why visit?

To admire a unique photo spot in Les Saintes.

To feel the maritime soul of the island, marked by voyages, storms, and stopovers.

To get off the beaten track and discover Terre-de-Haut beyond its beaches and panoramic views.

✨ In short: the Lynndy shipwreck is an unmissable stop between maritime heritage and postcard scenery, offering a unique view of Terre-de-Haut, where beauty sometimes comes from abandonment.

So, if you pass through Terre-de-Haut, take the time to observe it. The Lynndy wreck no longer sails, but it continues to travel in the imagination of all those who cross its path.
